DraftKings launches same-game parlay wagering

Launched just in time for football season, same-game parlays come as a new feature via DraftKings’ data partnership with Genius Sports.

Most sportsbooks already offer parlay betting, where bettors compile multiple wagers on different events into a single bet.

Same-game parlays, on the other hand, have traditionally been avoided by sportsbooks. The reason being, results of one selection often influence the results of another.

Same-game parlays allow players to merge two or more bets from the same game into a single wager. Combining bets like this lengthens the odds, thus allowing bettors to maximize their potential payout.

For instance, odds of the Tennessee Titans beating the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, Aug. 13 may sit at +105. But say you also want to wager on the Titans and Falcons to score over 38 points in the game at -110 odds.

By combining those wagers, you can secure odds of +291, which comes out to be a $39.13 payout on a $10 wager.

Other sportsbooks with same-game parlays

DraftKings certainly isn’t the first sportsbook to adopt same-game parlays. FanDuel Sportsbook has long integrated a same-game parlay feature into its own marketing strategy.

FanDuel is consistently a top performer in the Tennessee market, with $58 million wagered on the app during June alone. The sportsbook credits its same-game parlay markets as one of the primary reasons for its nationwide success.

That’s because, although parlay wagering may be a fun option for bettors, it’s rarely a lucrative one.

BetMGM, the state’s most-popular sportsbook in terms of overall handle, also incorporates a One-Game Parlay feature. Its wagering options, however, are limited only to soccer and basketball.

DraftKings consistently performs third-best in the state, seeing $40.7 million in wagers during June. Now that same-game parlays have entered the mix, the sportsbook expects to see an increase in handle this fall.

Parlay wagers account for 20% of betting in the Volunteer State according to Tennessee Education Lottery CEO Rebecca Hargrove during a recent June meeting.

There is no indication, however, as to what portion of those wagers bettors place on same-game parlays.

MLB same-game parlay bonus bet

In honor of this new same-game parlay feature, DraftKings is giving bettors a $10 bonus bet to use for an SGP wager on any MLB game from now until Wednesday, Aug. 18.

Players must opt-in to this promotion in order to be eligible.

Same-game parlays are only available on mobile devices in Tennessee.

As we get closer to NFL season, keep an eye out for more same-game parlay offers on the DraftKings mobile app.
