Good things really do come in pairs.
This was especially true for one Covington, TN resident who became $1 million richer one day in early June.
Covington man stops for gas, wins $1 million
Covington resident Jeff Stewart typically picks up his usual lottery ticket once a week. But on one particularly fateful drive to work, he decided to double down on his Millionaire Jumbo Bucks purchase. Now, it’s a day he’ll never forget. He said:
“I was just going to buy one, but for some reason I decided to buy two.”
Thanks to that decision, Stewart is now the most recent $1 million Tennessee Lottery winner.
Stewart purchased this lucky ticket while stopped for gas at Murphy USA on Highway 51 South. And chances are, he’ll never look at that gas station the same way again.
Stewart wasn’t basking in this newfound win alone, though. When he traveled to Nashville’s Tennessee Lottery headquarters last week to claim the prize, he brought his wife and brother with him to commemorate the occasion.
Other lucky lottery winners
Stewart wasn’t the only one to win big while playing the lottery this June, though. A player from East Tennessee also won $1 million.
During the week of June 12-18 alone, players raked in over $24 million in total earnings. These weren’t all small wins either. In fact, 373 of those players won $1,000 or more.
Earlier this year in Memphis, one lucky Tennessee player won $2 million. And in the Fiscal Year 2021, the Lottery set a new record with over $2 billion in annual sales.
In all, players have claimed over $17.5 billion in prizes since the Tennessee Lottery’s inception in 2004.
These lottery games have had a substantial impact on the greater community as well. The Tennessee Lottery has raised more than $6.3 billion in funding for state-specific secondary education programs. And Tennessee Lottery retail locations received over $1.67 billion from commissions.
As always, the Tennessee Lottery reminds you to have fun and play responsibly.
