Friday night’s Mega Millions jackpot is now up to $660 million. This number sets a new record as the third-largest sum in the game’s history.
It also happens to be the ninth-largest lottery grand prize ever.
Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $660 million
The Mega Millions buzz continues to grow in Tennessee and beyond. Although millions participate in this twice-weekly drawing, it’s been more than 3 months since a jackpot winner has been crowned.
The game’s current jackpot has been rising since April 12, when a Minnesota couple took home their $66.9 million cash winnings.
Now, the jackpot sits at a staggering $660 million. After federal taxes, that means a new winner would walk away with almost $417 million divided into 30 annual payments.
Those opting for the one-time cash sum can become an entire $376.9 million richer (or $237.5 million net).
Largest Mega Millions jackpot win
The largest Mega Millions jackpot win came in Oct. 2018 when someone purchased a winning ticket in South Carolina worth $1.54 billion.
After that, a Michigan player lucked out with a $1.05 billion win in Jan. 2021.
Since then, plenty of players around the nation have become big lottery winners — though none quite large enough to set a new record.
No player has won the full jackpot in recent months. In this week’s earlier drawing, however, players from four states matched five numbers to each claim a $1 million payday.
Where to purchase a Mega Millions ticket
The next Mega Millions drawing takes place at 11 p.m. ET on Friday, July 22.
Grabbing a Mega Millions ticket for tonight’s drawing is as simple as dropping into almost any convenience store in Tennessee or beyond. Tickets are $2 each and are available for purchase until 10:45 p.m. this evening.
If no one wins the jackpot after tonight’s drawing, the money will carry over to subsequent drawings, which take place every Tuesday and Friday.
Visit a participating Tennessee Lottery retail location and snag your ticket for a chance at becoming the nation’s next Mega Millions jackpot winner.
