USMNT Favored In World Cup Qualifier Against Canada

Posted on September 3, 2021

CONCACAF World Cup qualifying continues this Sunday, Sept. 5. The United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT) competes against Canada in Nashville, Tennessee’s own Nissan Stadium.

According to Tennessee sportsbooks, the U.S. is favored in this highly anticipated hometown qualifier.

USMNT vs Canada

These two North American teams enter this final round faceoff after their previous matches both resulted in draws.

Team USA has homefield advantage here, having played at Nissan Stadium a total of eight times, beginning in 2006 against Morocco. Four of those matches resulted in wins.

Over 36,000 fans are expected to be in attendance on Sunday. It’s a factor that could play a major role in Us success, though Canada shouldn’t be entirely discredited. America’s northern neighbor has had quite the year itself.

This is the first time Canada has reached this final stage of World Cup qualifying since 1997. The last time Canada won against the U.S. was in October 2019 during a Nations League match on Canadian soil.

Two defensive starters from Nashville SC, an MLS team that also plays at Nissan Stadium, will be competing against each other in this matchup. Walker Zimmerman serves as the US center back, while Alistair Johnston is Canada’s right back.

DraftKings gives the world 20th-ranked U.S. -195 odds of winning. A draw is the second most likely conclusion at +300 odds. The sportsbook situates odds of No. 70 Canada pulling out a win at +475.

Those looking for the most value can visit FanDuel, which offers the most value across the board, with -185 odds of a Team USA win, +325 odds of a draw, and +490 odds of Canada swooping in with a win.

World Cup qualifier wagering

Three other Round 3 qualifying events also take place this Sunday:

  • Jamaica vs Panama
  • Costa Rica vs Mexico
  • El Salvador vs Honduras

Along with wagering on each match’s moneyline, spread, and total goals, Tennessee bettors can find odds on:

  • First/last team to score
  • Both teams to score
  • Winning margin
  • Correct score
  • Odd/even total goals
  • Own goal scored
  • Exact goals scored
  • 1st/2nd half results

Team props allow bettors to wager on the results of a particular team rather than on the match as a whole.

The top three teams that result from the final round of competition will automatically qualify for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The U.S. logged seven consecutive World Cup visits before failing to qualify in 2018.

DraftKings currently gives USA +8000 odds of winning the World Cup, behind 15 other teams. Brazil takes the top prediction with +550 odds of earning its sixth World Cup title.

Bettors can take part in live wagering while attending the event in person or stream the game live on FS1 beginning at 7 p.m. CT.
