And They’re Off! TwinSpires Sportsbook Out Of The Gate In Tennessee & Taking Bets

Posted on March 19, 2021 - Last Updated on August 14, 2024

Like a horse out of the gate, TwinSpires Sports is ready to race. The Churchill Downs-owned sportsbook launched in Tennessee Thursday just in time for the First Four NCAA basketball betting action.

The online betting app will join TwinSpires’ horse race betting product in the state.

Now, Tennesseans will know the brand for more than just advance-deposit wagering (ADW).

Tennessee is seventh state with a Churchill Downs Sportsbook

While the ADW app TwinSpires is available in many states for horse race betting, the company is still relatively new in the sports betting space. Tennessee marks the seventh state where Churchill Downs operates sportsbooks. The others are:

  • Colorado
  • Indiana
  • Michigan
  • Mississippi
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania

In some states with online wagering, the app used to be known as BetAmerica Sportsbook. The company is in the midst of a rebrand to TwinSpires. It hopes to completely phase out the BetAmerica brand by the summer.

Churchill Downs President and COO Bill Mudd made some big promises about the online sportsbook in the press release for the launch:

“We are excited to launch our state-of-the-art TwinSpires sports betting mobile app in Tennessee just in time for March Madness. Tennessee sports enthusiasts will be eligible for our best-ever player sign-up bonus, as well as continued market-leading promotions, all within our industry-leading sports mobile app and desktop product.”

TwinSpires recently signed Brett Favre as a brand spokesperson. Of course, the Hall of Famer might draw a better crowd in states like Michigan more so than Tennessee.

TwinSpires Sportsbook offers March Madness-related promos

TwinSpires offers a standard sign-up promotion that potentially gives bettors up to $1,000 in bonus bets. There are also a couple of offers specific to the Big Dance.

One is an odds boost for new customers. If any team scores more than 50 points in the opening round of action, the site will double the money on any bet up to $25. Customers need to opt-in to this promo by using the promo code PRIMETIME.

The other offer also requires bettors to opt-in to participate. If bettors wager on March Madness action every day, they will get a bonus bet based on their betting choices.

Tennesseans have more sportsbook options for busy betting weekend

TwinSpires is the sixth sportsbook to launch in Tennessee. However, as of this afternoon, only five sportsbooks are operational.

Action 24/7 appears to be having some technical difficulties at the worst possible time. The site tweeted out an apology about the outage this morning:

It is not uncommon to see sportsbooks have outages during big betting events. Even the big names like FanDuel and DraftKings have experienced similar issues during games like the Super Bowl.

Thankfully though, Tennesseans are getting more and more options to turn to if they want to shop lines, find the best promos, and make sure someone is around to take their bets if someone else cannot.
