Let’s start here: Playing the lottery is not usually a great way to get rich.
But for a few select Tennesseans, the lottery has been a profitable endeavor, with two people making at least a million (before taxes) and another almost hitting that mark.
$2 million via the Tennessee Lottery
The biggest recent win came via a scratch-off instant win game.
A Dyersburg man won $2 million by playing the Mega Millionaire Jumbo Bucks game just last week.
If you’re keeping track at home, that’s the biggest prize up for grabs in that game, which costs $25. So someone does get lucky once in awhile.
The other lottery winners
But that wasn’t all or Tennessee:
- A player from Nashville won just under $700,000 playing Tennessee Cash, a draw game where you must pick five numbers and the “cash ball.” That’s what this Tennessee resident did.
- Another player came up just short of hitting the Powerball jackpot. A woman matched all five regular numbers during a draw, but didn’t match the Powerball required to get the grand prize.
The Tennessee Lottery said that there have been 270 tickets awarding a million or more since 2004.
Mega Millions jackpot getting big
While all of the above is great, Tennesseans are surely getting their hopes up for an even bigger prize.
MegaMillions is now above $500 million, with a drawing scheduled for June 7, 2019.
While a million dollars is great, a half a billion is truly life-changing money, if anyone hits the winning numbers this week.
