Mondays just became a lot more fun thanks to the Tennessee Lottery.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 23, Powerball drawings have now expanded to include a third evening each week, and a new Double Play feature has been added.
Lottery players now have more opportunities than ever to win big.
Powerball adds a third drawing on Monday nights
Since launching on a national level in April 1992, Powerball has seen a steady increase in popularity over the years. Drawings have traditionally taken place every Wednesday and Saturday evening at 9:59 p.m. CT.
A continued rise in interest, however, has led to the need for additional playing opportunities.
The recent growth of the Tennessee Lottery further validates that notion.
Moving forward, Powerball drawings will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
Tennessee Education Lottery CEO Rebecca Hargrove sees the addition of another drawing day as a positive step in the lottery’s continued expansion efforts.
“The Tennessee Lottery is coming off a record-breaking year in which it raised nearly $500 million for education. We’re always trying to innovate and generate player excitement, and the new Monday drawing and Double Play feature mean more cash prizes, continuing our momentum in the new year.”
As the state’s most popular drawing-style game, Powerball purchases make up 9% of the lottery’s sales in Tennessee, while instant scratch-off games make up another 79.8% of revenue.
Players have purchased close to $24 billion in drawing-style and scratch-off tickets since the Tennessee Lottery’s launch in January 2004, amounting to more than $15.2 billion in total winnings.
When it comes to Powerball, Tennessee players have already won over $11.2 million this year. Most recently, the Tennessee Lottery crowned a $1 million winner on July 24.
The world’s largest lottery payout came in January 2016 when three winners from California, Florida and Tennessee divided the $1.58 billion jackpot.
New Double Play feature offers twice the fun
Players now have an option to add the Double Play feature to their Powerball ticket for an additional $1.
A separate drawing gives players who have opted in for this feature a second opportunity to win up to $10 million with their same numbers.
This new Double Play drawing will be held each Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday after the Powerball drawing.
Players also still have the option to purchase a Power Play add-on to automatically multiply any non-jackpot prizes. However, this $1 opt-in only applies to the initial Powerball drawing, not the Double Play drawing.
Sales for the new drawing day and its featured add-on began Sunday, Aug. 22.
Players can take part in the first-ever Monday drawing beginning tonight at 9:59 p.m. CT.
The Powerball jackpot currently sits at an estimated $293 million.
