Memphis Grizzlies Gear Up For Home Court Showdown Against The Spurs

The NBA regular season has come to an end, and now post-season excitement begins. The Memphis Grizzlies face off against the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday night during a win-or-go home game in the Play-In Tournament.

Grizzlies welcome Spurs for play-in home game

The NBA Playoffs officially begin on May 22. Before tipoff, however, eight teams must compete for a spot in the action through the league’s new Play-In Tournament. Only four teams will move on to the playoffs, and with any luck, one of those may very well be the Memphis Grizzlies.

Both the Grizzlies and Spurs lost their last game of the season on May 16. The Grizzlies lost 113-101 to the Golden State Warriors, while the Spurs lost 123-121 to the Phoenix Suns. As a result, the two teams find themselves paired together for this first post-season matchup.

Coming into the game, the Grizzlies are positioned as the No. 9 seed, while the Spurs are No. 10. The winner will face off against the loser of the Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers game to determine the No. 8 seed.

That No. 8 seed will then advance to a playoff game against the No. 1 Utah Jazz.

The Spurs are dealing with a few injury setbacks that could factor into the upcoming game. Derrick White and Luka Samanic are still sitting on the bench, while Trey Lyles continues to nurse a sprained right ankle.

The Grizzlies team remains almost entirely intact aside from injuries affecting shooting guards Sean McDermott and Grayson Allen.

Grizzlies vs. Spurs play-in tournament odds

Those looking to bet on the Memphis Grizzlies have a variety of options to choose from. Sportsbooks wasted no time releasing odds as soon as the matchup was announced.

The Grizzlies take the upper hand here, hosting this one-game matchup on their home court in the FedEx Forum. That advantage is reflected at sportsbooks, which situate the Grizzlies as 3.5-point favorites.

DraftKings Tennessee situates the game’s over/under at 222. Of the 72 games in the Spur’s season, 37 of them have hit the over. The exact opposite is true for the Grizzlies, who hit the under in 37 of their games this season.

Out of the three games they’ve played against each other this season, Memphis has won two of those, both by a margin of 17 points or more. Total points for all three games averaged 242.

Along with traditional wagers, bettors can select the over/under on points, three-pointers, rebounds, and assists logged by individual players. Other wagering options include:

  • First team to score
  • Player to score the first field goal
  • Top point scorer of the game
  • Total points by quarter

For the avid parlay bettors out there, BetMGM Tennessee Sportsbook now offers a new One Game Parlay feature, allowing bettors to combine wagering selections for the same game.

If Memphis pulls through this game, the team still has a long road ahead if they want to clinch a conference title and have a shot at the NBA title. Going into this game, Memphis has +15000 odds of winning the West and +25000 odds of snagging the 2021 NBA title.
