GVC Enhances Responsible Gaming Initiatives With PlayPause

Posted on December 4, 2020

International gaming operator GVC Holdings was recently announced as the first official PlayPause partner.

Conscious Gaming, the provider of PlayPause, is intent on setting the new industry standard through multi-state responsible gambling tools and security.

This new technology will revolutionize responsible gaming practices for operators and bettors alike.

The responsible gaming advantages of PlayPause

Players can voluntarily exclude themselves from participating in legal gambling activities through the preventive measure of self exclusion.

As it stands, bettors perform such actions on a state-by-state basis.

Consequently, a loophole for problem gamblers lies a short drive across state borders, where separate regulations apply.

PlayPause’s adaptive technology allows users to customize restrictions, track and limit betting habits, and self-exclude according to their particular needs.

Players can opt for the regulation to move across state lines, or bettors can self-exclude from an operator in one state while remaining active in another.

The service would ultimately unify individual state records into one master database.

BetMGM will be the first sportsbook rolling out this technology.

BetMGM welcomes responsible gaming innovation

The new partnership between GVC and Conscious Gaming, a non-profit operation launched by world-renowned geolocation compliance service GeoComply, will allow BetMGM to offer enhanced safeguards to US bettors.

GVC formed a joint venture with MGM Resorts International in 2018, better known as Roar Digital. The brand manages BetMGM’s online poker, casino and sports betting ventures.

BetMGM’s mobile sportsbook is currently operational in six states, with launches in Pennsylvania and Michigan on the horizon.

Enhanced player protection may be just the thing to distinguish this partnership’s new market expansion.

GVC plans for policy overhaul

GVC has already laid the foundation for its current US efforts. The company partnered with Harvard University to conduct multi-year research on addictive behaviors. It is also a member of the US National Council on Problem Gambling President’s Circle.

In addition, GVC collaborates with EPIC, an independent consultancy focused on minimizing problem gambling.

The company aims to remove itself from all unregulated markets by 2023. It also established an internal Advanced Responsibility & Care (ARC) program and an incentive program for company executives based on responsible gambling performance.

An overall makeover, rebranding, and name change are in the works.

Subject to final shareholder approval, the brand will be re-envisioned as Entain.

GVC Sustainability Charter

GVC announced its Conscious Gaming partnership as part of a new Sustainability Charter. This move serves to enhance its overall reputation and positive impact on the gaming industry.

PlayPause is the first of its initiatives.

Moreover, the industry giant will dedicate $132 million to community support and responsible gaming research over the next five years.

Problem gambling initiatives like these are then supplemented by state-funded responsible gambling resources.

When used in conjunction, these new tools and technologies will forge a more responsible gaming environment than ever before.
