FanDuel Puts The Fun In Responsible Gambling

Posted on March 4, 2022

March is National Problem Gambling Awareness Month, and sportsbooks are raising awareness about the issue via various endeavors. One popular gaming brand, in particular, is leading the charge to safeguard customers against potential risks.

FanDuel Group is taking a proactive approach to responsible gambling by debuting a new ad campaign, enhancing its “Play Well” initiative and making a considerable contribution to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG).

The System: FanDuel’s responsible gaming chase

FanDuel’s newest efforts include a multi-media advertising campaign called “The System,” which features a prime-time television commercial.

In this quirky, lighthearted ad, a friend reaches out to his betting buddy for the inside scoop on a winning betting system. Rather than chasing wins, he ultimately discovers the real secret to betting success lies in keeping the hobby fun.

The spot highlights FanDuel’s available responsible gaming tools and encourages players to set personal limits on wagering activity.

FanDuel’s new responsible gaming ambassador, sports media personality Craig Carton, serves as the video’s main character and the face of the entire campaign.

Carton appears in multiple new releases, including:

  • Responsible Gaming Training Module for FanDuel employees
  • Responsible Gaming tutorial for FanDuel customers
  • A series of social media campaigns highlighting available Responsible Gaming Tools

As an established responsible gaming advocate, Carton intends to share his own personal experiences and serve as a role model for responsible play.

FanDuel Group Vice President of Responsible Gaming Adam Warrington explained the importance of these new efforts:

“We’re fully committed at FanDuel to developing useful tools and programs that make a difference in responsible gaming. Our new ad campaign and Craig Carton’s content aim to bring an important spotlight to our player control tools that help customers keep sports betting fun and entertaining.”

FanDuel encourages customers to Play Well

FanDuel’s new ad campaign is far from its first responsible gaming effort. The brand initially launched its Play Well campaign to help players responsibly manage activity across FanDuel’s daily fantasy, sportsbook, casino and horse racing platforms.

Rather than making users set self-imposed limits and manage their own accountability, Play Well is the equivalent of a buddy system. Customers have a partner there to keep them accountable and ensure they aren’t wagering beyond their means.

For instance, users can set limits on:

  • How much they can wager on an individual bet
  • How much they can deposit and wager within a certain time period
  • The time they can spend on the app each day

Any attempt to thwart these restrictions is then immediately stopped by FanDuel.

There’s also the option of taking a timeout, which allows users to pause their account for anywhere from a single day up to an entire year.

Those who are ready to take an extended break can opt for self-exclusion.

FanDuel even offers self-excluded customers a free Gamban subscription. This revolutionary program allows users to block themselves from accessing thousands of gambling sites on up to 15 personal devices.

All of these responsible gaming tools are available within FanDuel’s apps and on the Play Well website.

FanDuel makes ongoing commitment to responsible gaming

In addition to enhancing customer awareness, FanDuel is strengthening its own internal efforts. For one, the company intends to further monitor and detect player patterns that might suggest at-risk behavior.

FanDuel is also increasing employee training on the matter. New and existing FanDuel Group employees must all undergo a Responsible Gaming course —  the successful completion of which is reflected within employee compensation.

Moreover, FanDuel Group has made a $100,000 donation to the National Council on Problem Gambling, an organization that advocates for enhanced resources for affected bettors and family members.

NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte weighed in on the Play Well program and FanDuel’s efforts:

“The Play Well tools offer a common-sense, non-stigmatizing approach to responsible play and problem gambling prevention. This critical initiative not only offers vital consumer protections but actively encourages customers to use these tools regularly. We applaud FanDuel Group for taking meaningful steps, during Problem Gambling Awareness Month and all year long, to promote responsible gambling and address problem gambling nationwide.”

By equipping customers with these easy-to-use safeguards against problem gambling, operators are helping to prolong the overall life of the wagering industry.

When bettors bet responsibly, everyone wins.
